“Come, I will make the continent indissoluble,
I will make the most splendid race the sun ever shone upon,
I will make divine magnetic lands”

It had to rear its head at some point; the cliche of ‘the American road journey’ is so ingrained into photographic culture that ‘to a certain extent’ its unavoidable. The European love/hate relationship with aspects of visual Americana seem to drive these countless forays and the resulting images of ‘difference’ that we sub-consciously ‘or not’ are driven to shoot litter our minds and back catalogs to such an extent that ‘letting go’ of those triggers becomes near-impossible. Recently I had the chance to spend a week on the unbelievable Cumbrian coast. Physically hemmed in by the brutal Irish Sea and Lake District; the vicinities socioeconomic battles caused by the death of the fishing and mining industries were more than evident.
I met some really amazing people and got to experience the bleak beauty of a truly forgotten area of the UK. Full project out in November.
